Who Are LYLA?

We at The Lewisham Young Leaders Academy (LYLA), which is part of the Young Leaders Academy (YLA), aim to create a success pipeline for young black people as a representation of a positive future vision. We manifest the genius that resides within young men and women for leadership; building character, academic excellence, personal resilience, humility, and a resolute sense of purpose. Our mission is to deliver programmes that prepare young people for that future – creating leaders of character who are grounded in their communities and confident in their abilities.

We prepare our young people to shine in this world in everything they do in life, society and business. We believe that it is what they were born to do – our role is to shape them to do it. Our goal is to create a community who model the leadership qualities we espouse, such that they – and we – become known for our actions as well as our words.

LYLA is made up of African, Caribbean and Dual Heritage boys and girls, from age 8 - 16 years old.

We can only accept children who live in and/or who attend a school in the London Borough of Lewisham.

Please note that prospective students will be able to join the waiting list with a view to starting after the February half term or Easter break - please complete the online form to be invited to the next virtual induction session (via Zoom) taking place. Please click here.

Our Parents Are Simply The Best!

My son was so happy telling me about his day but then remembered that next Saturday will be his last day before half term, and he felt so sad! This shows me how great LYLA is for him. Thank you all for this opportunity.
