13 Steps of Success

Our Five Core Components

The Academy seeks to fulfil its vision through 5 core components and other means:

Saturday Academy

Leadership development is honed and nurtured through the Saturday Academy.

The Young Leaders meet from 10am to 1pm for training in leadership, social skills, public speaking and business acumen skills, which are required for effective leadership.

Holiday Programme

The Holiday Academy exists to consolidate and build on the leadership training that takes place during the Saturday Academy.

The curriculum includes and is not limited to:

  • Team-building
  • Educational visits, and
  • Fiscal management.

Mentoring Plus

The Academy has access to an incredible pool of professionals to encourage and stimulate the children. Our guest speakers have expertise across multiple disciplines.

The boys and girls have regular opportunities to interact with special guests, local and national leaders and others of public interest.

Service to the Community

The Academy promotes civic responsibility and moral leadership by involving the children in community service projects.

Examples include working in residential homes for the elderly, gardening and supporting others.

Parents' University

The Family Support Network affords parents/carers the opportunity to maximise their participation in LYLA.

There are ‘Family Meetings’ each month and parents/carers are expected to attend as part of the contractual agreement upon joining The Academy.

Inspiration, Motivation & Empowerment!

We really cherish our Mentoring Plus component, and we thank all of our fantastic Guest Speakers and Guest Facilitators, who impart their knowledge and wisdom, and give their time to help us to show our Young Leaders exactly

what is possible for them, now and in the future!

Our Parents Are Simply The Best!

I want to give a massive shoutout to the organisers and parent volunteers for the Ipswich trip. My daughter spoke about it the whole weekend from the notes she made. Already I can see the outpouring of intellect and grace from the young leaders and it's a beautiful thing! LYLA I appreciate and love you - Give thanks!

Proud Parent

My daughter wants to become a doctor and she was able to get all of her questions answered. The opportunity seems so much more real to her and she was so inspired. This is amazing works that the Lewisham Young Leaders Academy is doing with our young minds. LYLA is giving them hope and so much to aspire to - forever grateful and I thank you dearly for what you are doing for the next generation.
